Enabling Visitor Tracking with Google Analytics

In addition to the use of the built in Visitor Counter and the Visitor Sign in, another way to track visitors to your Zenfolio page is with Google Analytics. This is a free tool that allows you to collect aggregate information about visitors to your Zenfolio pages, such as the number of unique visitors over time, their location, length of visits, and much more.

Part I – Setup Google Analytics

No Existing Google Analytics Account

If you don't have an existing Google Analytics account, you will need to create one. Go to the Google Analytics home page and follow the instructions for creating an account with Google.

When signing up for Google Analytics, you will be asked to your Website's URL. The URL of your Zenfolio site is: [username].zenfolio.com or the custom domain you may have created for yourself.

We've already inserted all the necessary code into your Zenfolio pages, so just click the Continue button on the Tracking Instructions page to proceed to the Analytics Settings page.

Click the Check Status link on the Analytics Settings page and write down or copy the Web Property ID code displayed in the Tracking Status Information box. It should look something like UA-999999-1.

Existing Google Analytics Account

If you already have an account with Google Analytics, go to the Google Analytics home page and login into your account.

Click the Add Website profile button and enter the URL of your Zenfolio site such as [username].zenfolio.com.  If you're using a custom domain, enter the custom domain instead.

Write down or copy the Web Property ID code displayed in the Tracking Status Information box. It should look something like UA-999999-1.

You do not need to insert any code into your Zenfolio pages – we've already done that for you.

Also,
Google has rolled out an updated version of Google Analytics called Universal Analytics. We recommend upgrading your website to Universal Analytics as soon as possible.

If you already have Google Analytics set up for your account, you may still need to upgrade to Google Universal Analytics and update your Zenfolio settings to reflect these changes.
