What is Client Access?

The Client Access feature is used to quickly direct your clients to their gallery.  On your site's Client Access  page, your clients can enter their gallery's Client Access code/Gallery ID and they are then instantly directed to their gallery.  No clicking around your site required to find their images.

See this link for a demo of a Client Access page.

Please note that Client Access is unrelated to locking a Gallery with a Password.  Skip to this section for more details.

How can I find my Client Access page?

The default web address for the Client Access page uses this format username.zenfolio.com/clients.html

Replace the username part with your own username to go directly to your Client Access page.

You can also find the direct link to your Client Access page by going to your list of built-in pages.

See this link for how to configure your Client Access page.

How can my clients find my Client Access page?

You can allow your clients to find your Client Access page by either sending them the direct link to your Client Access page or by adding a menu item to your Site Menu that links to your Client Access page.

You can send your clients the link to your Client Access page is by emailing them the link using the email feature in your account.  When sending the link by email, you can also send them their Gallery ID that they can use to find their gallery.

See this link for how to send emails from your account.

If you display a link to your Client Access page in your Site Menu, visitors of your homepage or other pages of your site will be able to find your Client Access page.

Here is a link to a demo site with a link to the Client Access page in the Site menu -

You can see the steps for adding a new menu item to the Site Menu here.

What is the Client Access Code/Gallery ID?

The Client Access code/Gallery ID is the code that clients enter into the Client Access page.  Each Gallery ID corresponds to a specific gallery in the account.  When entered into the Client Access page, the client is automatically directed to the corresponding gallery.

The site owner/photographer is the one that chooses the Gallery IDs for their galleries.

You can see the steps for how to choose the Gallery IDs for any group, gallery or collection here.

Client Access code/Gallery ID and Gallery Password Distinction

It is important to understand that the Gallery ID is different from locking your gallery with a Password. See this link for more on setting up a password.

If the gallery is password protected, your clients would need to enter the Gallery ID to take them to the gallery then they would need to enter the password to view the actual content of the gallery.

Also if the gallery's password is entered into the Client Access page, it will not direct them to their gallery.  Only the gallery's Client Access code/Gallery ID can be used on that page.

Similarly, the Client Access code/Gallery ID cannot be used to unlock a password locked gallery.  Password locked galleries can only be unlocked with the password created by the photographer when they locked the gallery with the password.

Integrating the Zenfolio website with another non-Zenfolio website

The Client Access page is a great way to integrate the Zenfolio site with an external web page.  This allows users that want to only use the Zenfolio site for client proofing and selling of prints while maintaining another website for their portfolio or an already existing blog.

Here is what needs to be done to integrate the Zenfolio site with another website.
  • Create a link to the Zenfolio site's Client Access page.  This link should be created and displayed on the other website.
The clients can then use that link to go to the Client Access page in the Zenfolio site and use it to find their galleries in the Zenfolio account. Please check with the host or provider of the other website to inquire about how to create links that are displayed on that site.

  • Create a custom theme for the Zenfolio site.  The custom theme can be configured to use the same or similar colors and fonts that are used in the other website.  This can be used to give the Zenfolio site a similar look and feel to the other website. See this link for how to create a custom theme.

  • Create a subdomain. If a custom domain like www.mywebsite.com is being used with the other website, a subdomain can be created and used with the Zenfolio site.  That can be used to give the Zenfolio site a web address (URL) that is similar to other other website- something like photos.mywebsite.com or proofs.mywebsite.com.

Subdomains are created from through the domain host. That would be the same host that is hosting the custom domain (e.g. www.mywebsite.com). See this link for more details on using a subdomain.

  • Set the other website as the External Homepage. The External Homepage feature can be used to replace the built in homepage with the other website.  That way when a client clicks on the logo or site display name in the Zenfolio website, they will be directed to the other website. See this link for how to use the External Homepage feature.
