Applying a Cover Thumbnail to your Groups, Galleries and Collections

A Cover thumbnail is like a book cover. It visually provides clues as to what can be found inside the container.

It is best to select the most representative and memorable photograph inside to be the Cover Thumbnail. Most often the photos used for a gallery are from within that gallery. For a group, many choose to use photos from a gallery contained within that group.

Any public photo or video contained within any gallery or collection can be assigned as a Cover Thumbnail to any group, gallery or collection. Unless applied to its containing gallery, the photo must be set to Public in its Access Control Settings to be selectable as a cover thumbnail.

By default, the top most image displayed in the gallery will be used as the gallery's cover thumbnail unless the a different image is manually assigned as the cover thumbnails for that gallery.

For Groups, the Group folder icon is used as the group's cover thumbnails unless an image is assigned as the cover thumbnails for that group.

Assigning a Cover Thumbnail to a private or PASSWORD-PROTECTED group, gallery, or collection

Below is an example of how password locked galleries are displayed when photo protection is applied to their cover thumbnails.

Asterisk Locked Galleries

To display a photo thumbnail instead, you must check Always display Cover Thumbnail for that group, gallery, or collection. If this is not checked, the appearance of a password-protected gallery will display a protected thumbnail icon with asterisks. Private containers will not be seen at all except by the owner with a grey icon.

  1. In the Dashboard, go to Photos.
  2. Select the group, gallery, or collection that has been made private or password-protected.
  3. In the Toolbox go to Gallery Access. An Access Control window will appear.
  4. Check Don't apply protection to cover thumbnail, always display it to visitors.
  5. Click Save to apply your changes.
